If you are a talented and experienced Litigation Legal Assistant in the Edmonton area, Aplin has the opportunity for you! Our client is seeking the right candidate with just a couple of years of work experience, to assist with a variety of legal and administrative tasks.  In this role you will provide support to a team of lawyers, which will include maintaining and organizing files, conducting legal research, managing workflow, and drafting documents.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct court searches 
  • Draft correspondence and court documents
  • Pre-trial and trial preparation including maintenance of all trial binders and limitation systems
  • Proactively manage timelines of tasks and files to ensure the team meets required statutes of limitations and deadlines
  • Prepare a variety of legal documents including briefs and factums
  • Schedule various applications and questionings • Manage workflow for a team of lawyers
  • Coordinate and schedule meetings and maintain calendars
  • Preparation of accounts and time entry 
  • General administrative tasks including office and file management
  • Other tasks as required 
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education from a recognized Legal Assistant program
  • Minimum three (3) years of relative experience (An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered) 
  • Experience with Worldox, Remindex, Elite, Westlaw and/or CanLII is an asset
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office programs 
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills 
  • Exhibit attention to detail and is committed to producing accurate and high-quality work 
  • Ability to organize, prioritize work and meet deadlines with a high degree of personal initiative
  • Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner 
  • Ability to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently 
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills 
  • Readily adapt to changing priorities and effectively work in a changing and high-volume work environment 
  • Possess problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset
