- Client Engagement Management
- Own client engagements from start to finish, managing expectations and deadlines.
- Coordinate with the administrative team to prepare and track all files and documents.
- Conduct planning meetings for all engagements, discussing file approach, complications, and changes from prior years.
- Review files promptly, ensuring efficient billing and follow-ups on unbilled work.
- Maintain regular communication with clients, partners, and team members to address issues or delays.
- Bill promptly for consulting, tax, and T1 engagements, ensuring adherence to the billing cycle.
- Planning & Resource Allocation
- Set realistic goals and targets, considering tax implications and complexity of the work.
- Align engagement plans with firm goals, ensuring proper resource allocation.
- Coordinate with other managers and partners to prioritize and organize client jobs.
- Develop contingency plans to ensure deadlines are met.
- People Management & Development
- Lead a team of accountants by providing coaching, feedback, and mentorship.
- Delegate tasks to develop team members' skills and knowledge, while motivating them to excel.
- Accept mistakes and provide constructive criticism in a manner that encourages growth.
- Mentor direct reports, conduct regular meetings, setting performance improvement goals, and attending quarterly reviews with HR.
- Client Development
- Build in-depth knowledge of clients' businesses, systems, and processes.
- Identify opportunities for additional services and maintain regular marketing touches.
- Ensure clients are aware of the full range of services offered by the firm.
- Professional Development
- Stay up to date with new accounting standards and policies.
- Participate in professional development opportunities in accounting, tax, consulting, management, and leadership.
- Meet CPA Manitoba's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.
- Engage in community involvement through volunteering or joining boards.
- Communication
- Maintain timely communication with clients and partners, ensuring all engagements are tracked and on schedule.
- Regularly communicate updates and potential issues to partners, ensuring client expectations are met.
- Participate in pre-year-end meetings with audit and review clients to address any potential issues early.
- Return calls and emails within 24 hours.
- Miscellaneous
- Record marketing touches throughout the year and contribute to meeting marketing goals.
- Participate actively in team meetings and contribute to subcommittees as needed.
- Assist other managers when required and seek help when necessary.
- Meet time entry standards and ensure that time is recorded accurately.
- CPA designation required, with at least 5 years of experience in public practice and 1 year or more in a managerial role.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage time and priorities effectively.
- Collaborative team player with the ability to motivate and develop others.
