The Structural Project Engineer (PEng) will play a pivotal role in overseeing the structural design, engineering, and drafting, as well as the stamping and sealing of professional engineering drawings associated with the company’s products and services. This position necessitates a physical presence in Fort McMurray, AB. However, a flexible shift schedule can be accommodated to align with the candidate’s preferences and requirements.

  • Utilize finite element analysis, design calculations, and adherence to codes, standards, and specifications for the design and analysis of structural steel and reinforced concrete.
  • Develop effective conceptual and preliminary design solutions, ensuring they align with engineering principles, and detail them appropriately.
  • Thoroughly review 3D models and drawing packages intended for submission and fabrication.
  • Liaise with internal technical team members, project managers, quality and production staff, as well as external stakeholders, including clients, consulting engineers, contractors, and inspectors.
  • Prepare and authenticate drawing packages, calculation reports, RFIs (Requests for Information), and technical letters.
  • Review and certify external designs when necessary.
  • Support the drafting of various structures, equipment, and materials as needed.
  • Conduct in situ field visits, inspections, and confirmations, including measurements of various equipment and structural details.
  • Play a role in the overall Project Management process, contributing to the successful delivery of final products and solutions to customers.
  • Participate in the recruitment, training, and development of EIT (Engineer-in-Training) or junior engineers.
  • Graduate of a Structural Engineering program (preferably MEng or MSc) or equivalent, with a curriculum including courses in structural analysis and design.
  • Working knowledge of CSA S16 and National Building Code (AB).
  • 2-5 years of experience with finite element analysis software, such as Risa 3D or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Advance Steel, Navisworks, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office Applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Diligently adhere to all relevant OH&S requirements and ensure compliance with in-house safety regulations.
  • Hold a valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • OSSA BSO or Common Safety Orientation (CSO) Certification is considered an asset.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently and make contributions in a positive environment.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills.
  • Hard worker, ready to assume responsibility quickly and contribute proactively.
