With a competitive compensation package, a 7-on/7-off rotation, and opportunities for future leadership growth, this is your chance to make a meaningful impact in Canada’s uranium mining industry.
About Our Client
Orano Canada is a leading uranium producer in Canada, helping power the future with clean energy. As we expand our team and support ongoing operational priorities at McClean Lake, we are recruiting a strong, hands-on maintenance leader to join our northern Saskatchewan operation.
About the Role
Orano is seeking a General Supervisor, Mine Maintenance to lead and continuously improve the mine maintenance program for a remote fly-in/fly-out site. This is a critical leadership role that must maintain strong visibility across crews and ensure maintenance execution is safe, planned, measured, and continuously improving.
Reports to: Mine Manager
Direct reports: 2 Maintenance Supervisors (each leading ~12 employees) + Maintenance Planners (through supervisors)
This role requires a balanced mix of people leadership and technical/analytical capability—someone who can build trust with crews while also driving strong planning, reporting, budgeting support, and maintenance program discipline. Succession potential is also important; the successful hire will have the runway to grow into increased leadership responsibility over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, record, evaluate, and continuously improve the mine maintenance program.
- Maintain and enhance an effective preventative and predictive maintenance program and work order process.
- Plan and organize maintenance activities for upcoming weeks; support short- and long-term planning, scheduling, and departmental budgeting.
- Lead, coach, and develop Maintenance Supervisors and Planners; strengthen training programs and support professional development.
- Manage inventory, cost control, and maintenance/warehouse effectiveness; investigate and improve inventory processes where needed.
- Establish and maintain documentation systems and performance measures; compile reports and present findings and improvement recommendations.
- Assess maintenance performance from a technical viewpoint; document deficiencies, report results, and drive solutions.
- Promote and support Operational Excellence / OE culture, including continuous improvement practices.
- Foster a safe work environment and ensure compliance with Orano’s health, safety, environmental, environmental protection, and radiation policies through education, awareness, and leadership.
- Ensure regulatory, licensing, permit, and company requirements are met promptly.
- Promote and model Orano’s values: Safety & Security, Team Spirit & Cohesion, Continuous Improvement, Customer Satisfaction, Ethics, Transparency & Dialogue, Respect, and People Development.
Qualifications & Experience
Required / Must-haves
- Significant mine/industrial maintenance experience in a similar leadership role (mining maintenance strongly preferred; other mining environments considered).
- 5+ years of supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership capability (more is an asset given succession intent).
- Post-secondary education required (degree, diploma, or certificate).
- Preference for Mechanical background; engineering technology diploma or engineering degree (Mechanical/Industrial) is strongly preferred.
- Experience with reliability-based maintenance strategies and continuous improvement environments (e.g., Operational Excellence, 5S).
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to build effective working relationships across teams and shifts.
- Solid technical/business reporting capability (comfort with maintenance reporting, basic budgeting support, and tools like Excel is important).
Assets / Nice-to-haves
- SAP exposure (Plant Maintenance; S/4HANA familiarity viewed as beneficial—can be taught, but experience helps).
- Exposure to asset reliability practices and programs.
- Candidates from adjacent industries with heavy equipment maintenance leadership (including some oilfield / drilling-rig type environments) may be transferable.
Working Conditions / Site & Travel
- Location: McClean Lake Operations, Northern Saskatchewan
- Fly-in/Fly-out with on-premise camp facilities
- Employees travel to the Saskatoon pickup point at their own expense; Orano provides flights from Saskatoon to site.
- Rotation: 7 days in / 7 days out (periodic adjustments may be required)
- Schedule: 11-hour days, days only (additional work outside normal hours may be required at times)
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $150,000 – $176,000 per annum, commensurate with experience
- 15% short-term incentive
- 7% RSP match
- Orano Performance Payment: up to 4% in year 1; 8% starting year 2+
- Benefits: strong coverage; $1,000 annually per person on the plan for paramedical expenses
- Vacation: 3 weeks to start (21 working days)
- Annual wage review typically Dec/Jan (expected 2–3% movement next year)
- Stat holidays worked paid at 3x hourly rate (material uplift potential depending on stats worked)
