Aplin has partnered with Delco Water Group, an established Canadian provider of integrated water and wastewater treatment solutions, to recruit a Senior Vice President. This executive will provide strategic, operational and commercial leadership across the organization’s Water, Automation and Manufacturing businesses.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Operations, the Senior Vice President will serve as the senior business-unit leader, with full P&L accountability for revenue, profitability, cash flow and overall business performance.
This is an exceptional succession opportunity for an accomplished water-industry executive to lead an established, mid-sized business, strengthen operational performance and accountability, develop the management team, and position the organization for continued growth and long-term success.
The Opportunity
The Senior Vice President will provide end-to-end leadership across business development, engineering, project delivery, manufacturing, supply chain, quality and customer service. Working within the strategic direction established by executive leadership, this individual will translate organizational priorities into executable business plans, budgets and performance objectives.
A central part of the mandate will be establishing clear accountability throughout the business. The successful candidate will mentor and develop internal talent, clarify responsibilities and decision-making authority, address operational inefficiencies, and ensure the management team is aligned around common business objectives.
The successful candidate must bring sufficient water or wastewater industry knowledge to understand the market and become effective quickly. This requires an experienced business leader who can take ownership of the complete operation while remaining personally involved when circumstances require.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate the development and execution of business strategy, annual operating plans and budgets.
- Assume full P&L accountability for revenue, profitability, cash flow and overall business performance.
- Translate executive direction into clear commercial, operational and financial priorities.
- Strengthen operational alignment and identify efficiencies across the Water, Automation and Manufacturing businesses.
- Lead commercial and operational performance across business development, engineering, project management, manufacturing, supply chain, quality and customer service.
- Strengthen relationships with customers, engineering consultants, Indigenous partners, technology providers, government representatives and industry stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for organic growth, national expansion, recurring revenue, strategic partnerships and acquisitions.
- Ensure engineered-to-order projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and to customer expectations.
- Improve financial and operational discipline through effective forecasting, performance measurement, risk management and continuous improvement.
- Establish clear responsibilities, decision-making authority and accountability throughout the organization.
- Build, mentor and develop a high-performing management team.
- Introduce appropriate systems, processes and controls while maintaining the organization’s entrepreneurial and responsive culture.
- Represent the business with key customers, consultants, partners, industry organizations and community stakeholders.
- Report to the board on business performance, operational results and strategic priorities.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished executive with direct experience in the water or wastewater industry. Relevant experience may include water or wastewater treatment, engineered systems, project delivery, equipment manufacturing, product distribution or related industrial solutions.
Most importantly, the successful candidate will bring both water-industry credibility and experience leading a complete business with end-to-end responsibility.
The successful candidate will bring:
- Senior executive or business-unit leadership experience within the water or wastewater industry.
- End-to-end leadership responsibility across the commercial, operational and financial functions of a business.
- Full P&L accountability for a complex division, business unit or organization generating at least $30 million in annual revenue.
- Experience leading a project-based, engineered-to-order, manufacturing or industrial solutions business.
- Sufficient technical knowledge of water-treatment processes and engineered systems to evaluate recommendations, challenge assumptions and support technical leaders.
- Experience leading across sales, engineering, project delivery, automation, manufacturing and customer service.
- A record of growing revenue, improving profitability and strengthening operational performance.
- Commercial leadership experience within a long-cycle, relationship-driven sales environment.
- Established credibility with major customers, engineering consultants and strategic partners.
- Strong financial-management, budgeting, forecasting and business-planning capabilities.
- Experience establishing accountability and addressing complex organizational and performance issues.
- Experience building, mentoring and developing high-performing management teams.
- The independence, maturity and executive presence required to lead the complete business.
Delco Water Group is open to candidates whose experience is weighted more heavily toward commercial growth or operational leadership, provided they possess full-business leadership capability and can build complementary strengths within the management team.
A relevant post-secondary degree in engineering, business, operations or a related discipline is preferred. An MBA or comparable advanced qualification would be an asset. Demonstrated leadership accomplishments and business results will be given significant consideration.
Leadership Style
The successful candidate will be a self-directed and accountable leader who is comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial, mid-sized organization. This individual must be prepared to become personally involved when required, influence across functional boundaries and balance increased structure with organizational agility.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity. Candidates accustomed to relying on extensive large-company infrastructure or narrowly defined responsibilities may find the environment challenging. The successful executive will be comfortable wearing multiple hats, making difficult decisions and taking ownership of issues across the complete business.
Location
The Senior Vice President will be based in Saskatoon, where Delco Water Group’s primary operations and approximately 175 employees are located. A consistent on-site leadership presence is required.
Qualified candidates from across Canada will be considered, and relocation assistance is available. Reasonable transitional arrangements may be considered to support relocation. Travel will be required to develop customer and consultant relationships and support partnerships and growth initiatives.
All inquiries and applications will be treated with the highest degree of confidentiality.
