Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Software Asset Manager to join their team and take ownership of software licensing, compliance, audits, renewals, and optimization.
This is a hybrid opportunity based in Edmonton or Calgary, AB, ideal for a Software Asset Management professional with strong hands-on experience managing enterprise software environments. You will work closely with IT, vendors, procurement, and business stakeholders to ensure software usage aligns with contractual requirements while identifying opportunities to optimize technology spend and reduce risk.

Responsibilities
- Lead Software Asset Management initiatives, including software licensing, audits, reconciliations, renewals, true-ups, compliance, and optimization.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on software licensing and SAM across IT projects and business initiatives.
- Analyze software usage, entitlements, contracts, deployment data, and licensing terms to identify compliance risks and cost-saving opportunities.
- Manage software licensing across perpetual, SaaS, cloud, and AI environments.
- Support Microsoft, Azure, and Microsoft Copilot licensing and optimization initiatives.
- Lead and coordinate software vendor audits, working with internal stakeholders and vendors to validate licensing positions and resolve findings.
- Conduct regular software reconciliations to ensure software usage and deployments remain aligned with contractual entitlements.
- Identify opportunities to optimize software spend through license harvesting, reassignment, subscription optimization, utilization analysis, and renewal planning.
- Review software agreements and communicate licensing requirements, usage rights, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Develop dashboards, reports, and executive summaries covering software compliance, licensing costs, utilization, risks, and optimization opportunities.
- Develop and improve SAM processes, controls, policies, and best practices.
- Stay current on software licensing trends, cloud technologies, AI licensing, and SAM best practices.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on Software Asset Management experience, with a strong focus on software licensing, compliance, and entitlement management.
- Experience with software license reconciliations, audits, true-ups, renewals, and/or compliance remediation.
- Strong understanding of software licensing models, contractual terms, entitlements, and compliance requirements.
- Experience managing SaaS, cloud, and/or AI licensing and subscriptions.
- Microsoft and/or Azure licensing experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with enterprise SAM/ITAM platforms such as Ivanti, Flexera, ServiceNow, Snow Software, USU, or similar.
- Strong Excel skills and experience with Power BI or similar reporting and analytics tools.
- Experience identifying and implementing software cost-saving and license optimization opportunities.
- Ability to interpret software agreements and communicate licensing requirements, risks, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, investigative, organizational, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- CSAM, CITAM, or similar SAM/ITAM certification is an asset.
- ITIL certification and knowledge of ISO 19770 or other SAM/ITAM standards are assets.
- Post-secondary education in IT, Business, Computer Science, or a related discipline is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
