We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join the finance team of a growing organization in Southeast Edmonton. This position will play an important role in supporting day-to-day accounting activities, financial reporting, account reconciliations, audit preparation, and vendor-related accounting processes. The successful candidate will also be responsible for ensuring financial information is accurate and properly maintained within SAP.
The Opportunity
Our client is a privately owned Canadian manufacturing company with an established reputation in the Edmonton market. The organization designs and manufactures specialized industrial products for customers within the energy sector and works with vendors and business partners across multiple countries.
This position offers an opportunity to become part of an experienced and collaborative finance team while gaining exposure to a broad range of accounting functions, including international transactions, financial reporting, compliance, and month-end activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and execute the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Conduct detailed variance analysis, identify key business drivers, and provide actionable insights to leadership
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages.
- Support year-end audit activities by preparing audit schedules, providing supporting documentation, and partnering closely with external auditors.
- Assist with the development of budgets, forecasts, and financial projections to support business planning and decision-making.
- Manage fixed asset accounting and intercompany transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting policies.
- Contribute to cost accounting activities, including manufacturing cost analysis and investigation of production variances.
- Partner cross-functionally with operations to understand business drivers, assess financial performance, and provide informed financial guidance.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, strengthen internal controls, and improve operational and financial efficiencies.
- Ad hoc duties as needed
Requirements
- 5+ years of accounting experience
- Strong SAP experience is required
- CPA designation preferred, or actively pursuing a CPA designation
- Experience with financial reporting and reconciliations
- Exposure to audit processes and requirements
- 5 days in office role
