We are seeking a strategic, hands-on Controller to lead a growing finance team with a background in real estate, construction or home building. This is a fully in office role based in North Calgary, AB.
The Controller will lead day-to-day accounting operations under the direction of the VP Finance. The role has direct oversight of the accounting, HR and office administration functions, with responsibility for team leadership, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, and continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly close process and deliver accurate financial statements on schedule.
- Prepare management reporting, variance analysis, and executive dashboards.
- Oversee financial reporting for all related entities and provide profitability analysis to support business decisions.
- Ensure financial obligations are managed accurately and on time.
- Develop annual budgets, forecasts, and financial models supporting business planning.
- Maintain the integrity of the ERP system and continuously improve financial processes, reporting, and data quality.
- Oversee internal controls, tax compliance, audits, banking requirements, and regulatory reporting.
- Support and oversee the finance team, including payroll operations.
- Partner with Operations, Sales, and senior leadership by providing financial insights and supporting cross-functional initiatives and special projects.
Qualifications
- CPA designation strongly preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibility.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS/GAAP (or ASPE), financial reporting, month-end close, and audit processes.
- Experience leading month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
- Experience with ERP systems and financial process improvement.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
