They are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of IT to lead their technology function. This is a full-time, in-person position based at the corporate head office in Edmonton.
What You’ll Do
As a key member of the leadership team, you will report directly to the Executive Committee and lead the planning, execution, and optimization of the organization’s IT systems and infrastructure.
This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical oversight. You will establish the long-term technology direction while overseeing major projects, day-to-day IT operations, and technology support across a national network of locations. You will develop the IT roadmap, evaluate and approve initiatives, and partner with business leaders to drive service excellence and technology-enabled growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead the organization’s overall IT strategy, including roadmap, timelines, priorities, and direction, aligned with business objectives.
- Report to the Executive Committee, providing recommendations, progress updates, and guidance on technology initiatives.
- Oversee major IT projects, ensuring quality execution, timely delivery, and measurable business impact.
- Provide oversight of critical business platforms, including POS, ERP, CRM, loyalty, and related enterprise systems.
- Oversee cloud infrastructure, including Microsoft 365 and Azure, as well as backup, firewall, security, and disaster recovery environments.
- Lead Sage 300 ERP upgrades and oversee enterprise reporting platforms such as Power BI and Sage Intelligence.
- Drive the adoption of AI and automation across core business and finance processes.
- Partner closely with Finance, Operations, IT, and third-party vendors to ensure system integrity and effective business support.
- Ensure responsive and effective technical support for internal teams and the organization’s national network.
- Establish and maintain IT policies, procedures, documentation, and knowledge-management practices.
- Ensure compliance with privacy legislation, data protection requirements, cybersecurity practices, and IT risk-management standards.
- Manage IT vendors, licensing, contracts, procurement, and technology-related budgets.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a growing in-house IT team while maintaining a strong hands-on presence.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and lead system integration initiatives that support continued growth and operational efficiency.
What You Bring
- Degree or diploma in IT, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of progressive IT experience, including 3+ years in a senior leadership or Director-level position.
- Proven experience developing and executing an IT strategy, including roadmap development, prioritization, and direction-setting.
- Strong Point-of-Sale experience, ideally with Oracle or a similar enterprise POS environment.
- Help desk and IT service management experience; familiarity with Jira Service Management is an asset.
- Hands-on experience with system administration, Microsoft 365, Azure, networking, endpoint security, and backup systems.
- Strong understanding of POS, ERP, CRM, and HRIS platforms.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, data governance, privacy, and IT compliance.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, leadership, and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence at the executive level.
- Experience supporting a multi-unit, retail, franchise, or geographically distributed environment is a strong asset.
- Highly organized, resourceful, proactive, and comfortable balancing strategic priorities with hands-on technical requirements.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Azure Administrator Associate, CompTIA Network+ / Security+ / CySA+, ITIL Foundation, or an IT project management certification are considered an asset.
