Our client is a growing public accounting firm working primarily with private companies, owner-managed businesses, and high-net-worth clients. They are looking to add an experienced Accounting Manager to support a growing client base and help lead engagement delivery across the firm.
This is a strong opportunity for a public practice professional who enjoys private enterprise work, client management, staff leadership, and a mix of compilation, review, and tax compliance engagements. The ideal candidate is technically strong, comfortable managing files independently, and interested in long-term progression within a growing firm.
About the Role
The Accounting Manager will oversee a portfolio of private company clients and manage engagements from planning through Partner review. This person will work closely with clients, review work completed by staff, manage deadlines and workflow, and support the continued development of junior team members.
The role is primarily focused on compilation and review engagements, along with corporate and personal tax compliance. The firm does not perform audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage compilation and review engagements from planning through completion
- Review year-end working papers, financial statements, and tax files
- Manage a portfolio of private company and owner-managed business clients
- Act as a primary point of contact for clients and resolve more complex accounting matters
- Review and delegate work across junior and senior staff
- Coach and mentor team members
- Manage engagement workflow, deadlines, WIP, and billing
- Work closely with Partners on complex client matters
- Support process improvements and internal efficiencies
- Identify opportunities to provide additional value to existing clients
Who You Are
- CPA designated, or close to completion
- 5+ years of Canadian public practice experience
- Previous Manager-level experience or a strong Senior/Assistant Manager ready to step up
- Strong experience with compilation and review engagements
- Experience working with private companies and owner-managed businesses
- Strong corporate and personal tax compliance knowledge
- Comfortable independently managing client relationships and engagement delivery
- Experience reviewing files and supporting junior staff
- Strong knowledge of ASPE and Canadian accounting standards
- Organized, client-focused, and able to manage competing deadlines
Nice to Have
- Experience with complex or multi-entity private company groups
- Exposure to high-net-worth clients
- Experience with CaseWare and Taxprep
- Experience managing WIP, billing, and engagement budgets
- Interest in business development and long-term Partnership progression
