Tammy Boyko and Carlan Wilbon with Aplin are seeking an experienced Health, Safety, Environment & Regulatory Relations (SHERR) Consultant to support their clients Exploration team. This role is responsible for providing field-based Health Safety and Environmental support across multiple remote exploration projects throughout Northern Saskatchewan, while also contributing to the continuous improvement of safety programs, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
The successful candidate will spend time both in the field and supporting documentation and program development activities. This is an excellent opportunity for a safety professional who enjoys working in remote environments and is passionate about promoting a strong safety culture.
Responsibilities:
Health, Safety & Environmental Field Support
- Conduct Health Safety and Environmental inspections and audits at remote exploration sites and temporary work camps.
- Assess compliance with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify hazards and provide recommendations for corrective actions and continuous improvement.
- Review work activities including drilling, geophysical surveys, line cutting, equipment operation, and camp operations.
- Observe work practices, conduct job task observations, and verify compliance with safe work procedures.
- Facilitate onsite Health Safety and Environmental meetings and promote a positive safety culture.
- Complete field inspection reports, audit checklists, and recommendations within established timelines.
- Provide technical advice and guidance on HSE matters to exploration personnel.
Documentation & Program Development
- Review and update Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, work instructions, checklists, and related documentation.
- Evaluate and improve orientation and induction materials for exploration personnel.
- Assist in the development of online safety training modules and learning materials.
- Support hazard identification initiatives, risk assessments, and updates to the Exploration risk register.
- Ensure documentation aligns with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support other Safety, Health, Environment and Regulatory Relations (SHERR) initiatives as required.
- Provide assistance with projects at exploration sites and the Saskatoon office.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to continuously improve HSE systems and processes.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of Health, Safety and Environment experience, preferably within mining, exploration, construction, or industrial operations.
- Experience conducting field inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Strong understanding of Saskatchewan occupational health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
- Experience developing and reviewing HSE documentation, procedures, and training materials.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in remote camps or exploration environments.
- Mining or mineral exploration experience is considered a strong asset.
- Experience with drilling operations, geophysical surveys, heavy equipment, and contractor management.
- Familiarity with Integrated Management Systems (IMS), risk management processes, and regulatory compliance.
