Our Client is seeking an experienced Building Maintenance Supervisor to lead a team of skilled trades and maintenance professionals responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of facility infrastructure and building systems.

This hands-on leadership role oversees preventative maintenance programs, repairs, contractor coordination, and day-to-day building operations. The successful candidate will be a strong people leader with a solid technical background in building maintenance, mechanical systems, HVAC, refrigeration, electrical systems, or power engineering.

The Building Maintenance Supervisor works closely with internal stakeholders and external service providers to ensure facilities remain safe, operational, and well-maintained while supporting organizational goals and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
  • Supervise, mentor, and support maintenance and skilled trades personnel
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and ongoing development opportunities
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and vacation planning
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Ensure staff have the tools, equipment, training, and resources required to perform their work safely and effectively
Maintenance & Facility Operations
  • Oversee preventative maintenance programs and repair activities across facility systems
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules to minimize operational disruptions
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend corrective actions or capital improvements
  • Oversee maintenance and repair activities related to:
    • Mechanical systems
    • Electrical systems
    • HVAC and refrigeration equipment
    • Boilers and pressure systems
  • Maintain work order systems and preventative maintenance records
  • Coordinate contractors and external service providers
  • Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation for emergency support and escalations
Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
  • Assist with annual operating and capital budget planning
  • Monitor expenditures and support cost-control initiatives
  • Review invoices and approve purchases as required
  • Create and manage purchase orders
  • Ensure accurate coding and tracking of maintenance expenses
  • Support reporting and documentation requirements
Qualifications
Education & Technical Background
Preference will be given to candidates with:
  • Technical diploma or degree related to building operations, facility management, maintenance, engineering technology, or a related field
  • Journeyperson certification in a related trade, including:
    • Electrical
    • Millwright
    • Plumbing
    • Carpentry
    • Power Engineering
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in:
    • Building operations and maintenance
    • Industrial maintenance
    • Commercial facilities or construction environments
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Experience coordinating maintenance projects and contractors
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset
Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and preventative maintenance programs
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, and boiler systems
  • Ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, architectural, and structural drawings
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills
  • Sound budgeting and financial management abilities
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
Working Environment
  • Primarily Monday to Friday daytime schedule
  • Participation in an after-hours on-call rotation is required
  • Combination of office, shop, and active facility environments
  • Exposure to mechanical and electrical rooms, maintenance areas, and construction activities
  • Must be comfortable working at heights and climbing ladders when required
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Valid driver's license considered an asset
