Our client is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Senior Manager of Data Engineering to lead the evolution of thier enterprise data platform and data engineering function. This role will oversee a team of data engineers responsible for building and maintaining scalable, cloud-based data solutions while defining the organization’s long-term data strategy.
The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in Snowflake, Azure, modern data architectures, and team leadership. They will partner closely with business, analytics, and technology stakeholders to deliver high-quality, cost-effective data solutions that enable business intelligence, operational reporting, and advanced analytics.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Data Engineering team.
- Recruit and retain top talent, including managing distributed and offshore resources.
- Establish team objectives, performance metrics, and delivery standards.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Data Platform Strategy & Architecture
- Define and execute the enterprise data engineering roadmap.
- Lead the design and optimization of cloud-based data platforms, with Snowflake as the core enterprise data warehouse and Azure as the primary cloud ecosystem.
- Oversee data pipeline development, orchestration, performance tuning, scalability, and cost optimization.
- Partner with Analytics teams to ensure data structures support reporting, business intelligence, and decision-making requirements.
Data Governance, Security & Compliance
- Implement and maintain enterprise data governance practices, including data quality, lineage, security, and access controls.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and certification frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, and PCI-DSS.
- Support audits through effective documentation and control processes.
Operational Excellence & Cost Management
- Manage Snowflake and Azure consumption to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Forecast platform expenses and partner with Finance on budgeting and optimization initiatives.
- Balance performance, scalability, and cost considerations across all data solutions.
Data Integration & Modern Architecture
- Expand and enhance batch and real-time data processing capabilities.
- Support event-driven architectures through integration with applications and microservices.
- Enable data platforms that support analytical, operational, and near real-time use cases.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product, Development, DevOps, QA, and Analytics teams to deliver strategic initiatives.
- Promote modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, automation, infrastructure as code, and monitoring.
- Ensure production data services meet established service levels and reliability standards.
Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary technology leader for data engineering initiatives.
- Translate business priorities into actionable data strategies and technical roadmaps.
- Communicate progress, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate emerging technologies and best practices within the Snowflake and Azure ecosystems.
- Drive improvements in data quality, performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Champion modern data engineering practices that support business growth and innovation.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of leadership experience in Data Engineering, including building and scaling technical teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake, including data warehouse design, pipeline orchestration, performance tuning, and cost optimization.
- Expertise with Azure data services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Synapse Analytics, and Power BI.
- Experience with modern DevOps and engineering practices, including CI/CD, GitHub, Agile delivery methodologies, Jira, and Confluence.
- Proven ability to design and implement scalable data architectures supporting both analytics and operational workloads.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
