ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant (Contract) to support their finance team during a busy period. This is a hands-on role with a strong focus on owning the month-end close process, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting tax and audit requirements.
This position is best suited for someone who is detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Reporting & Close:
- Manage and execute the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Prepare and post journal entries across balance sheet and P&L accounts
- Perform variance analysis and support preparation of financial statements
- Assist with internal reporting and supporting schedules
Reconciliations & Accuracy:
- Complete and review balance sheet reconciliations (bank, accruals, intercompany, prepaid, etc.)
- Investigate discrepancies and ensure completeness and accuracy of financial data
- Maintain organized, audit-ready working papers and documentation
Tax & Compliance:
- Prepare and review indirect tax filings (GST/HST, PST, and other provincial taxes)
- Ensure timely tax remittances and support corporate tax provisions
- Liaise with external advisors on tax-related matters
Audit Support:
- Assist with external audit processes, including preparing schedules and responding to requests
- Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant
REQUIREMENTS
- CPA designation (or actively pursuing) preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience (public practice and/or industry)
- Strong hands-on experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and reporting
- Solid understanding of Canadian tax requirements (GST/HST, PST)
- Experience supporting external audits
- Strong Excel skills and ERP exposure (experience with mid-sized systems preferred)
