Aplin is proud to support a long-time client in hiring a Corporate Commercial Legal Assistant / Paralegal for their downtown Edmonton office. This is a hybrid Legal Assistant / Paralegal role, offering a unique blend of administrative and transactional responsibilities. While the firm has a well-established corporate department, you will also work closely with a solicitor whose broad practice provides exposure to a wide variety of corporate and commercial matters, including financing and share purchase transactions. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to step into a role with greater depth, responsibility, and long-term development.
Responsibilities
Corporate & Transactional Support
- Assist with corporate transactions, including share and asset purchase agreements
- Support mergers and acquisitions activities and due diligence processes
- Organize and review corporate records and minute books
Financing & Lending
- Prepare and coordinate loan and security documentation, including promissory notes, guarantees, and General Security Agreements
- Liaise with lenders, borrowers, and external parties to facilitate transactions
- Manage closing documentation and ensure all conditions are satisfied
Legal Assistant & Document Management
- Draft and format legal documents and correspondence
- Proofread agreements and maintain accuracy across all documentation
- Manage precedents, templates, and file organization
- Handle calendar management, scheduling, and general administrative support
Transaction Coordination
- Manage closing checklists, timelines, and key deliverables
- Coordinate execution of documents and signatures across multiple stakeholders
- Liaise with clients, accountants, and opposing counsel
- Organize and manage high volumes of documentation for complex transactions
Qualifications
- Experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal in corporate/commercial law
- Exposure to transactional work (financing, corporate structuring etc) is an asset
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
