We are currently seeking an experienced Field Safety Superintendent to provide on-site health, safety, and environmental (HSE) leadership on a large-scale construction project in Edmonton.
This role is responsible for ensuring safety programs are implemented and enforced across the project while promoting a strong safety culture among all personnel, contractors, and subcontractors. The successful candidate will work closely with project leadership and site teams to ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with regulatory and corporate safety standards.
This will be a 1 year contract starting March 30th.
Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation and enforcement of project safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices across all construction activities
- Conduct routine and ad hoc site safety inspections, hazard assessments, and field observations to identify and mitigate risks
- Deliver site orientations, toolbox talks, and targeted safety training for crews and subcontractors
- Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure compliance with project safety requirements and regulatory standards
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, develop corrective actions, and track resolution
- Maintain accurate safety documentation and records, including inspections, training, and incident reports
- Serve as the primary on-site safety resource for project leadership and construction teams
- Support emergency response planning and drills in coordination with project management and site teams
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Management, or a related field
- Professional safety certification such as CSP or equivalent
- Strong working knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) legislation and industry safety standards
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence safe behaviors on site
- Experience in site-based safety leadership roles with stop-work authority
- Background working on large multi-discipline industrial projects such as energy, petrochemical, hydrogen, LNG, or similar
- Participation in incident and near-miss investigations and implementing corrective actions
