Our client is seeking a Director of Procurement to oversee all buying activities including vendor relations, pricing, product selection, and inventory management. Working closely with operations and business leadership, this role will also drive implementation of best practices related to markdown strategy, and aging inventory. Responsibilities include providing strategic direction to category teams, increasing the use of analytics in decision-making, and partnering with business units and marketing teams to promote a product mix that meets customer needs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Participate as a member of the senior management team, contributing to strategic plans, KPIs, budgets, and outcomes
- Provide strategic support and leadership to the procurement team
- Utilize current tools and recommend new methods for analyzing procurement data to guide purchasing decisions regarding product selection, quantities, and margin
- Ensure category managers maintain proper plans for their areas and work closely with store staff for timely execution
- Establish policies and best practices for managing inventory
- Coordinate with logistics on shipping strategies, cost analysis, and inventory management
- Collaborate with store and supply chain leadership to optimize inventory levels, maximize warehouse utilization, and minimize delays and stockouts
- Work with internal leaders across divisions to understand procurement needs
- Support category managers in negotiating vendor contracts, optimizing volume and pricing to meet business objectives
- Participate in escalated vendor or service provider matters to resolve issues and disputes
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in purchasing, business, or a related discipline
- 7+ years of progressive experience in procurement or supply chain management
- Experience directing strategic sourcing and category management across a diverse product portfolio
- Skilled in developing policies, documentation, process improvements, standards, and work instructions
- Strong quantitative skills with the ability to analyze, validate, manipulate, and manage large data sets for problem-solving and trend analysis
- Experience building collaborative, long-term vendor relationships and agreements
- Demonstrated management experience including budgeting, resource planning, reporting, team leadership, and relationship management
- Strong business ethics and process orientation
- Proven track record of increasing efficiency and reducing costs through scalable solutions
