Tammy Boyko and Carlan Wilbon with Aplin have partnered with our Winnipeg client to hire an Assistant Controller. This role is ideal for a CPA who enjoys collaborating with others, takes initiative to solve problems, and has a strong understanding of accounting principles and systems.

Responsibilities
  • Handle day-to-day bookkeeping activities, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, job costing, and general ledger entries.
  • Reconcile accounts and prepare accurate monthly financial reports.
  • Prepare and file government remittances such as sales tax and payroll deductions.
  • Perform variance analysis with a focus on job costing and project performance.
  • Partner with project managers to ensure proper costing and financial tracking.
  • Support the implementation and optimization of a new accounting software system.
  • Take ownership of unassigned issues — identify problems, find solutions, and improve processes as they arise.
  • Provide key support to the Controller and the office as the go to of the organizaiton
Qualifications
  • CPA designation is required for this role.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Solid understanding of cost accounting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, accounting software, and ERP systems.
  • Detail-oriented and analytical, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Tech-savvy mindset—continuously looking for smarter, more efficient ways to improve processes.
  • Strong communicator and collaborative team player, comfortable working across departments
