Our long-standing Edmonton based client in the legal sector is seeking a dedicated and driven Family Law Associate to join their firm. This is a career-track position for a lawyer who is committed to building a long-term practice in family law, who doesn’t blink an eye at a 1500 billable hours target. About the Role
The successful candidate will work closely with two Partners in the group and be supported by two legal assistants. You will be part of a collaborative practice group focused on client advocacy, professional development, and community engagement. You’ll also benefit from strong internal support, advanced technology tools and full training provided. Mentorship is embedded into the group’s culture through regular practice meetings focused on education, case reviews, and skill development. Career growth is further supported by a structured annual review process, which includes personalized development planning, mid-year progress check-ins, and performance-based feedback to help you meet your goals and advance your practice.
Practice Focus:
- Divorce, custody, child and spousal support, and property division
- Pre-trial litigation (trial experience is an asset but not required)
- Exposure to other litigation areas is a possibility based on file load and expertise developed over time
- A long-term commitment to Family Law is essential.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of post-call experience in Family Law
- Admitted to the Alberta Bar and in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta
- Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, and communication skills
- Professional, polished, and community-minded
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Strong team player with the ability to work independently
- Demonstrated commitment to client service and ethical practice
- Volunteer or community involvement is considered an asset
