The Intermediate Accountant position, based in Burnaby, BC, is a full-time role focused on ensuring accurate and timely execution of the complete accounting cycle. This includes managing accounts payable and receivable, general ledger activities, reconciliations, financial reporting, and compliance with regulatory standards. The role also plays a key part in supporting audits, taxation requirements, and providing financial insights to leadership.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations with a focus on accounts payable and receivable.
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger to ensure accurate and compliant financial records.
- Handle banking activities including payments, reconciliations, and documentation of transactions.
- Prepare and reconcile customer and vendor accounts, proactively resolving discrepancies.
- Complete intercompany reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting across entities.
- Assist with month-end close, budget updates, and forecasting processes.
- Prepare statutory financial statements and submit reports to regulators, auditors, and internal stakeholders within required deadlines.
- Support tax reporting by coordinating with provincial and federal authorities, as well as external contractors.
- Provide documentation and accurate records during internal and external audits.
- Deliver regular financial reporting including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements, expense reviews, and variance analyses.
- Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, external standards, and audit requirements.
- Collaborate with team members and managers to provide financial insights and operational support.
- Uphold confidentiality in handling sensitive financial and organizational information.
- Perform additional financial tasks as assigned to meet business needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least four years of professional accounting experience.
- Professional designation such as CPA, CMA, or CA (completed or in progress).
- Proficiency with accounting systems such as Navision, SAP, or similar platforms.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and IFRS, including financial reporting standards and reconciliation processes.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with other financial software.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in managing financial records.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively under pressure with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with proven ability to collaborate across teams and with external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
