Aplin has partnered with a leading organization in the public sector seeking an experienced Internal Auditor to join their team on a 6-month contract, with the possibility of extension or a permanent offer. Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute operational and compliance audits across various departments, including transit, public works, and social services
- Assess the effectiveness of internal controls and recommend process improvements
- Lead client meetings and maintain strong stakeholder relationships throughout the audit lifecycle
- Prepare clear, comprehensive audit reports and present findings to leadership
- Perform data analysis and risk assessments to support audit objectives
- Act as the main point of contact on assigned audit engagements, with minimal supervision
- Collaborate with a dedicated team of auditors to drive performance and accountability
Qualifications:
- CPA or CIA designation (required)
- 5+ years of relevant audit experience, ideally in the public sector or government environment
- Strong background in operational and performance audits (not financial statement audits)
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects independently and adapt to changing priorities
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel; experience with Power BI is an asset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presenting at exit meetings
- Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with the ability to work with cross-functional teams
