What You’ll Do:
This leadership role is pivotal in guiding freight operations through strategic mentorship and aligning team performance with organizational goals. Working closely with the Freight GM, you will drive talent development and foster a culture of revenue awareness and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Coach and mentor Freight Coordinators and Account Managers to ensure performance alignment and professional growth.
- Client & Vendor Strategy: Provide guidance in sourcing, pricing, and selling strategies; develop and negotiate rates with both clients and carrier partners.
- Financial Growth: Support revenue goals through awareness-building initiatives tied to variable compensation targets.
- Process & Knowledge Management: Create and maintain training manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Operational Execution:
- Prepare service proposals and rate contracts.
- Monitor shipments to ensure compliance with service obligations.
- Retrieve and track carrier reference numbers.
- Confirm charges on all applicable Rail and Road (FTL) shipments.
- Ensure proper order closure and handoff to accounting.
- Bill clients accurately according to contract rates or spot quotes.
- Investigate and process freight claims.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of reports.
- Provide backup support for Freight Coordinators/Account Managers during absences.
- Take on additional duties as required.
What You Bring:
- Education:
- Post-secondary education preferred; relevant work experience may be considered in lieu.
- Education in Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related fields is highly valued and linked to compensation.
- Experience:
- Minimum 5+ years in transportation, logistics, or supply chain operations, ideally in a leadership role.
- 3–5 years of direct team management experience.
- Deep knowledge of FTL and Intermodal markets in North America.
- Strong background in rate negotiation with both clients and carriers.
- Experience with LTL & Truckload pricing and project management.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong prioritization and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Hands-on experience with TMS platforms, load boards, and tracking tools.
- Intermediate to advanced selling and negotiation skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
