My client is a leading local news organization in North America, operating across British Columbia, Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Washington State, Alaska, and Hawaii. With over 1,500 employees, they are dedicated to delivering community news and information through both traditional and digital platforms.

About the Opportunity
This role is best suited for a candidate who loves the world of payroll and is looking to take on additional responsibilities, with higher volume in a fast-paced environment. Working closely with the corporate accounting and operations teams, you’ll have a chance to take on the full cycle of payroll and eventually grow long-term with the company!

Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Payroll Manager, your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting in processing full-cycle semi-monthly payroll for a high volume of employees (salary, hourly, commissions). Working with managers to review timecards, overtime vacation etc.
  • Resolving payroll discrepancies prior to transmission
  • Assisting the Corporate Accounting Manager to review and verify expense reports, ensuring reports are in compliance with the expense policy
  • Maintaining accurate employee records in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
  • Administering the Employee Group Benefits Plan (including maintaining accurate employee records and status changes with insurance providers)
  • Assisting in preparing monthly reconciliation reports and correcting any gaps or missing deductions
  • Assisting in preparing payroll-related remittances and filings (EHT, EI, CPP, Workers’ Compensation and other tax forms as required)
  • Processing information for onboarding new hires, resignations and terminations. Sending ROE to Service Canada
Qualifications:
  • At least 1-2 years of full-cycle payroll experience
  • Post-secondary education in payroll or related
  • Knowledge of payroll-related legislative requirements (including CRA and ESA)
  • Enrolled onto Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certificate is an asset
