Our client, a leader in their field, has partnered with Aplin to hire a Senior Manager of Cybersecurity based in Calgary.  Reporting to the Director of Cybersecurity and Compliance, the Senior Manager of Cybersecurity is responsible for overseeing daily cybersecurity operations and leading the implementation of advanced technologies and best practices to protect the business against evolving security threats. This role serves as the senior technical expert in information security operations, providing guidance and oversight in key areas such as:
  • Security Threat Monitoring
  • Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR)
  • Threat Intelligence, Hunting, and Analytics
  • Security Architecture, Engineering, and Administration
  Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and develop a team of security analysts and specialists, including coaching, career development, recruitment, succession planning, and performance management.
  • Ensure seamless integration of technologies, processes, and governance frameworks to proactively identify, investigate, and mitigate current and emerging security threats.
  • Act as the operations lead during security incidents, providing leadership in containment and remediation efforts.
  • Drive continuous improvements in cybersecurity operations, including alerting, monitoring, vulnerability management, and detection across multiple security domains.
  • Champion innovative methods, processes, and technologies that strengthen the security posture and align with enterprise objectives.
  • Monitor external threat intelligence sources, research emerging threats, and implement preventative solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Cybersecurity & Compliance on strategic planning and team goal setting.
  • Contribute to the development and management of cybersecurity strategy and framework.
  • Generate security reports and deliver insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary diploma in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; advanced degrees and certifications (e.g., SANS GCIH, GCFE, GCIA) are highly preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in cybersecurity, including a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role within a Security Operations Center (SOC), DFIR, or similar environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft security solutions, including but not limited to Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR/XDR), Security Orchestration Automation and Response (SOAR), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Identity Security, and Data Loss Prevention (DLP).
  • In-depth understanding of modern security practices, including threat intelligence, security analytics, and common attack vectors.
  • Advanced expertise in Cybersecurity Operations frameworks and technologies, including cloud, automation, orchestration, analytics, and risk-based approaches.
  • Strong experience analyzing telemetry sources such as EDRs, network security tools, and cloud security solutions.
  • Extensive experience developing and maintaining playbooks, as well as other operational and governance documentation.
  • Solid knowledge of network fundamentals, including VPN, LAN/WAN, wireless networks, network topologies, switches, routers, protocols, and services.
  • Proficiency in managing either MS Windows or Linux systems, covering areas such as application servers, remote access, Active Directory, and performance monitoring.
  • Familiarity with adversary tactics and the MITRE ATT&CK® framework.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to synthesize complex and sometimes conflicting information.
