The Director, Procurement will oversee all buying activities for our client’s business, including vendor relations, pricing, product selection and inventory management. Working closely with the other business groups, the role will also lead implementation of best practices with regards to shrink, a markdown strategy and dealing with existing aged inventory. Duties include providing strategic direction to the category teams, increasing the use of analytics in decision-making, and working closely with store staff and marketing to offer and promote a product mix that meets our customers’ needs.

Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in the senior management team, assisting with the development and realization of strategic kpi’s. plans, budgets and outcomes
  • Provide strategic support and leadership to the procurement team
  • Utilize existing and recommend new means of analysing procurement data to drive future purchasing decisions with regards to selection, quantities and margin
  • Ensure category managers have proper planograms for their respective areas and work closely with store staff for timely implementation
  • Set policies and best practices with regards to managing shrink and aging inventory
  • Coordinate with the logistics team on product shipping strategies, cost analysis and inventory management
  • Work with the Managers and the Logistics group to optimize inventory levels to maximize the use of warehousing space and minimize delays and out of stock positions
  • Laise with other business leaders to understand the procurement needs in their divisions
  • Support Category Managers to negotiate vendor contracts and optimize volume and price to meet business needs
  • Participate in escalated areas of concern with vendors or service providers to solve problems and resolve disputes
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in a purchasing, business or other related discipline
  • 7+ years of progressively experience in procurement or supply chain management
  • Experience in setting direction for the implementation and management of strategic sourcing and category management strategies across a diverse portfolio of products
  • Adept at developing related policies, documents, processes improvements, standards and work instructions
  • Comfortable with utilizing quantitative skills to analyze, validate, manipulate and manage large amounts of data specific to problem-solving and trend analysis
  • Experience developing collaborative long-term strategic agreements and relationships
  • Demonstrated management skills and experience including resource management, budgeting, planning and reporting, team building and relationship management
  • Strong business ethics and process orientation
  • Proven track record of increasing efficiency and reducing costs through expandable and scalable solutions
