Aplin has partnered with a leader in the defense industry to hire an experienced Buyer to join their team in Dartmouth, NS. The company's supply chain function manages the processes associated with Indirect and Direct Procurement of goods and materials, ensuring that materials are available for operations and that completed products/services are delivered to the customer.

  • Purchase goods and services in line with specified cost, quality, and delivery targets
  • Ensure MRP data is accurate and maintain accurate part and supplier MRP data, including lead times, costs, and supplier evaluations
  • Ensure a continuous supply of required materials and communicate any supply problems that may pose a risk or impact business operations
  • Manage supplier order books and effectively expedite and prioritize orders to ensure goods/services are available to the manufacturing team at the right time
  • Research and evaluate areas of opportunity to reduce costs
  • Liaise with Production, Supplier/Product Assurance, and Programmes to ensure product and service quality levels are maximized
  • Ensure on-time, in-full delivery of materials and services to support project milestones
  • Monitor market trends and suppliers
  • Assess and evaluate suppliers and undertake performance reviews to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement activities
  • Identify appropriate sources of supply to meet contract needs
  • Ensure contract conditions are applied, including specific flow downs where appropriate
  • Assist in developing ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance, and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement
  • Support procurement department objectives and KPIs, and be instrumental in supporting their achievement
  • Support the timely return of any defective material deliveries to respective vendors and procure replacement materials in accordance with company procedures and processes, minimizing any impact on project milestones


  • At least 2 years of generalist Buyer/Procurement experience
  • Completed Diploma in Business, Supply Chain, Electronics/Electrical, or Mechanical
  • Experience with high-volume purchasing
  • Strong analytical skills, proficient in Excel and reporting software
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with personnel at all levels of the organization
  • Working knowledge of ERP and MRP systems (such as IFS)
  • Capable of acquiring a NATO security clearance and a Canadian Controlled Goods assessment to the satisfaction of the company
  • Knowledge/experience in the electronics market is preferred
  • High level of self-motivation and able to work on own initiative
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
