Responsibilities:
  • Graphic design and production of written and electronic materials, including posters and leaflets, website, social media and newsletter content, and special campaign materials such as email releases, text/SMS messaging, and press releases
  • Developing website functionality and other electronic communications such as videos and slide-deck presentations are required
  • Successfully translating documents between both official languages (English/French)
  • Maintaining regular contact with our members and creates written content to produce Hotlines and a monthly online magazine
  • Developing and maintaining sound relationships with external contacts including labor editors, the Federation of Labour media committees, and other groups
  • Keeping current on topics such as key labor issues, the economic climate, and the political landscape, and bring forward pertinent issues for review
  • Keeping attendance at conventions, conferences, rallies, and meetings is necessary
  • Fulfilling the requirements of this role, a willingness to work additional paid hours and travel is required

Qualifications:
  • Must have a degree or diploma in Communications, Journalism or English
  • Must be fluent and Bilingual in French and English. (Translation of documents between both official languages)
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in communications- related fields such as media, publications, web work or member communications
  • Experience in union or non-profits organization is an Asset
  • Must have a valid driver's license and passport
  • Excellent proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and Acrobat
  • Experience with DSLR photography and video is an Asset
  • Experience with website/blog management, HTML, social networking applications and e-newsletters, and knowledge of the latest online campaigning techniques an asset
  • Knowledge of the structure, history, policies, and principles of the labor movement in Canada
