Financial Analyst -Temp/Contract

Join a top employer and advance your career. Our client, a division of the government, has partnered with Aplin to hire a Financial Analyst. This is a 6-month contract position with an ASAP start. While this position will be a remote role, there will still be monthly onsite meetings in the Edmonton office.

The successful candidate will apply their accounting skills to full-cycle accounting and financial reporting, including developing and executing month-end processes, financial analysis, dashboards, and external/internal reporting.

Standard Hours of work are 08:15 – 16:30 Alberta time.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare non-complex journal entries
• Assist in the preparation of month-end reporting, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations
• Assist in budget preparation
• Support variance analysis and investigate abnormalities
• Assists with routine duties and preparation of working papers and financial statements
• Review and analyze accruals
• Identify and implement process improvements
• Analyze and interpret financial information
• Work with business entities to gather and disseminate information for budgeting and forecasting purposes
• Reconcile and prepare GST/HST
• Update department financial policies and procedures
• Other duties as required

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years experience working as a Financial Analyst
• Must have achieved Bachelor's in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance
• Experience in financial reporting, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial statements
• Must possess knowledge of Accounting principles and Canadian public sector accounting standards
• Experience with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Available for onsite meetings in Edmonton as required
• The frequency of onsite meetings is maybe once per month
• Experience managing a minimum of three projects for an organization of equivalent size and complexity to the Government of Alberta
