Responsibilities: 

Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Warehouse Supervisor coordinates the activity of warehouse staff and the movement of product in the warehouse of our distribution branch. Additionally, the Warehouse Supervisor will ensure efficiency of warehouse processes in accordance with applicable internal standards or requirements,  and ensure safe and efficient flow of inventory while supporting our commitment to providing an excellent customer service experience. General responsibilities include:
Shipping
  • Set delivery routes – refer to delivery report (SHRP)
  • Coordinate trucking and arrange special deliveries

As workload necessitates, the Supervisor also performs Warehouseperson duties which include:
  • Pick orders and prepare them in staging areas for delivery
  • Assist with loading of delivery trucks
  • Pick orders for immediate pick-up
  • Check accuracy of order against paperwork
  • Follow branch procedure for obtaining customer confirmation of order completion

Receiving
  • Review incoming delivery schedule then plan labour, space, and storage for receipt of goods including decisions about inventorying vs cross-docking
  • Expedite inbound goods related to backorders/special orders – inform the Customer Service staff so that the customer will be notified
  • Ensure accuracy and quality of incoming goods
  • Move incoming product to staging area for cross-docking as directed
  • Move incoming product to designated location in branch

Customer Service
  • Greet customers entering the warehouse by addressing them verbally
  • Serve them immediately or indicate that they will be helped as quickly as we can manage

Direct Supervision of warehouse employees
  • Ensure new employee orientation and training process is followed and monitor program effectiveness and employee progress
  • Coach and supervise the performance of warehouse helpers/drivers
  • Schedule work and assign tasks to warehouse employees

Inventory Replenishment/Control (some variance in responsibility by branch)
  • Perform replenishment duties as assigned, or in conjunction with Branch Manager to ensure that the branch has the right inventory at the branch at the right time
  • Print and review various reports as tools: cycle count records, surplus inventory report, inventory targets by product etc.

Safety
  • Perform safety audits/inspections in accordance with the appointed schedule
  •  Assist Branch Manager with determining root cause and corrective actions when Branch Manager performs Accident Investigations
  • Ensure appropriate and safe condition of all material handling equipment

Qualifications:
Education/Experience/Skill
  • Post-secondary education required
  • Experience in a lead role in a distribution warehouse
  • Computer proficiency – AS400, Microsoft Office, Inventory control applications
  • Forklift certified and comfortable operating all material handling equipment
  • Sound working knowledge of applicable safety rules and requirements

Environment & Physical/Mental Demands
  • Must be able to safely lift 50lbs
  • Must be able to operate material handling equipment
  • Distribution branch physical environment: noise, fluctuating temperature due to bay doors being open, constant stimulation of senses (visual, audio distractions)
  • Ability to effectively manage stress – low but somewhat constant levels
  • Sound spatial orientation aptitude for order and efficiency in warehouse space
