Join a top employer and advance your career. Aplin has partnered with a Hamilton-based company, a welding and metal fabrication shop to hire an Estimator - Custom Fabrication & Welding. They specialize in delivering on time delivery of custom fabrication jobs of all shapes and sizes throughout North America, turning concepts into a realistic buildable fabrication. This role requires an individual who can muti task and is equally comfortable being on the plant floor, working in the office and interacting with clients. This position will be responsible for specific technical design aspects of an assigned project including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions.

The Estimator will be responsible for the accurate, timely preparation of full-cost estimates for projects, including materials and labor. They will be tasked with preparing and maintaining a list of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors, and establishing unit costs, labor rates, productivity factors, and location impacts including:
  • Review drawings and specifications at the front end of bidding to ensure the work requested aligns with the company’s service offerings
  • Ensure all bids are precise and consistent with the customers’ needs and specifications
  • Provide technical support and advice to customers by developing solutions that align with their requirements and budget
  • Investigate, evaluate, and recommend  design solutions
  • Able to make independent decisions on problems and demonstrate a firm understanding of methods necessary to carry out complex assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedure
  • Liaison with customers in the field to gather additional information when necessary

  • Experience within a custom steel fabrication and welding environment
  • Secondary technical completed education
  • Experience in Lean principles, quality, process, and product engineering
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative in meeting commitments and deadlines
  • Must be organized, dedicated, and extremely detail oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical and non-technical information at all skill levels of the organization
  • Able to build effective working relationships in a collaborative team environment from production to administrative and management staff and customer
  • Must be proficient with office and engineering tools such as Excel AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Visio
  • Valid driver's license
