  • Understanding more complex tax issues to deal with planning
  • Understanding complex corporate tax issues, ex: Manufacturing and processing and Apprenticeship Tax Credits
  • Scientific Research and Experimental Development for large corporations
  • Preparation of the most difficult personal tax returns we have in the office
  • Training lower-level team members in review engagements and NTR's
  • Senior preparer on all large audit clients with responsibility for training and managing lower-level students
  • Attending planning meetings prior to all engagements and helping with planning.  Assess internal controls, identify weaknesses, and prepare in depth management reporting letter that helps clients address the issues
  • Client interaction: attend lunch meetings, attend all draft financial statement meetings and be able to answer the majority of tax planning related issues if contacted
  • Tax planning; bonuses, dividends, covering shareholder loans, evaluation of options
  • Research and improve knowledge
  • Keep notes on progression of improvement, i.e.: aim to reduce repetitive queries
  • Develop professional communication skills (written and oral)

    1. Defines roles and responsibilities, motivates, delegates effectively, manages collaboratively
  3. Client Development
    1. Knowledge of clients' business, knowledge of client processes and systems, frequent meetings, finding hot buttons for new business, ensuring client knows all of the company’s services
  4. Client Management
    1. Monitor the job from start to finish, ensure deadlines are met, maintain efficiencies on the job, allocate job to proper level of personnel, ensure billing done quickly, follow up after billing
  5. Planning
    1. Sets realistic goals or targets, aligns plans with firm goals, plans for proper resource allocation, creates contingency plans, coordinates, and cooperates with other firm managers and partners, prioritizes, and organizes client jobs
  6. Personal Development
    1. Up to date with new accounting policies and CICA Handbook, take professional development courses for both accounting and tax, volunteer in the community, join Boards or groups
  • University degree or college diploma in accounting or business administration
  • CPA designation in good standing
  • Minimum 2 years’ management experience 
  • Knowledge of CaseWare and Profile and QuickBooks
  • Detail-oriented with a passion for excellence
  • Strong time-management and organization skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with competing deadlines
  • Well-rounded communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Desire to help, coach, and mentor junior and intermediate accountants
