Aplin has partnered with the City of North Battleford to recruit a Water / Wastewater Treatment Plants Superintendent. Responsible for the management, operation, maintenance and supervision of a level 3 surface water treatment plant, a level 2 groundwater treatment plant, water tower, booster station, three reservoirs and a well field to ensure that the plants outputs are meeting Federal, Provincial and Municipal regulations and standards. Supervision of the Waste Water Treatment Supervisor and the overall operation of a Waste Water Treatment Class IV plant.


Responsibilities
  • Responsible for operation, maintenance and all records of the water treatment plants, reservoirs, booster station and water tower to ensure adherence to the Permit to Operate Waterworks, Environmental Management and Protection Act, and Water and Sewage Works Regulations with regard to water treatment, water storage and pumping (pumping stations, reservoirs and system pressures).
  • Lead the decision making processes regarding equipment replacement, retirement and acquisition, and reporting on operational condition of existing equipment.
  • Direct the preparation and completion of all work orders relating to maintenance, repair, and improvements.
  • Inventory control in relation to normal operations, preventative maintenance and equipment parts and materials.
  • Responsible for the repair and service of major equipment with external parties.
  • Purchase of materials to service/repair equipment, process equipment and chemicals.
  • Ensure all external parties follow the Permit to Operate, and applicable City policies and regulations.
  • Oversee Waste Water Supervisor and operation of Waste Water Treatment plant, five lift stations, a septic receiving station and storage lagoons.
  • Ensure Waste Water Treatment plant is compliant with all relevant federal, provincial and regional regulatory requirements by providing technical and regulatory expertise and maintaining current knowledge.
  • Maintain good communications with the Water Security Agency, Environment Canada and Department of Fisheries and Oceans EPOs.
  • Advise staff and/or senior management and Council of compliance issues as applicable.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Water Treatment Class III and Waste Water Treatment Class IV.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized local government setting.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field is required or equivalent of education and experience deemed necessary.
  • Current First Aid, WHMIS, Confined Space, Fall Protection, H2S Alive and other industry related courses are an asset.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office including Access, Excel and Word and SCADA experience.
  • Valid Saskatchewan Class 3A Drivers License.
  • Acceptable 5-year Driver’s abstract and RCMP criminal record check required.
  • Advanced knowledge of the practices and processes required to operate both a surface water plant and a groundwater plant and Water Treatment processes.
  • Asset management and Project management experience an asset.
  • Prior experience in mechanical trades or experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of the Permit to Operate Waterworks, Environmental Management and Protection Act, and Water and Sewage Works Regulations with regards to water treatment, water storage and pumping (pumping stations, reservoirs and system pressures).
