Join a top employer and advance your career. Aplin has partnered with a Calgary-based company, a leader within the architectural sector to hire a Studio Design Lead to their growing entity. This is an exciting position that will require a range of skills, including concept generation, project management, and client management. This multifaceted position is primarily focused on creating and developing architectural features.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead studio projects through the discovery, establish, schematic phases, ensuring that they meet the standards of design, quality, and vision
  • Assist in the creative curation process to match up the right creatives with the right projects based on project and client goals and vision
  • Coordinate external and internal creatives to develop concepts that resonate with the client and the context and fit within the practical constraints of the project including budget and schedule
  • Develop strategy for each project to help ensure client goals are met
  • Run internal and external kickoff and progress meetings throughout the schematic process, and ensure key deliverables and documents are complete at every Studio phase transition
  • Coordinate estimating, design, and scheduling efforts to ensure they are in alignment
  • Aid in defining design details, material selection, connection details, aesthetic direction, and all other key design decisions
  • Assist in selecting and sourcing materials and fabrication methods appropriate for the budget, conceptual intent, and schedule constraints of the project
  • Define project budgets and track project cost in Jonas to ensure we stay to these budgets
  • Engage internal and external experts as needed to aid in the development of feasible designs and plans
  • Develop and work with shop on production ,sampling, prototype and mockup plan and budgets
  • Run engineer selection / RFP process and manage the engineering scope through the schematic phase
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key industry leaders, including architects, developers, designers, artists, and general contractors

Qualifications:
  • Degree from an accredited secondary institution within the architecture, interior design engineering and/or art disciplines
  • Strong architectural and graphic design sense, creativity, and presentation skills
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiar with industry leading CAD, rendering, and animation software packages
  • Experience with graphic design and presentation software packages
