As the Production Superintendent, you will manage all resource-related aspects of the shift operation.  You will be responsible for producing quality intermediates and finished products according to a predetermined operations plan.  You will also oversee the operations of process equipment in accordance with Key Performance Measures, Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety/regulatory requirements, and divisional goals.

Key Areas of Accountability/Responsibility
  • Manage and supervise the shift operation of the Production Plant. Provide leadership and direction for the Production department. Develop motivated and competent staff and ensure effective and open communication
  • Manage morale and motivation, and establish an environment where the shift teams can flourish and develop themselves.  Create an open culture with dialogue and feedback
  • Select, manage, coach, and develop staff (training, validation of training, appraisal) in line with HR requirements and procedures
  • Complete and review Quarterly and Annual Performance Reviews for direct reports
  • Issue discipline if needed according to company policy and guidelines
  • Make proposals for rewards and sanctions
  • Enforce compliance with the production organization requirements, Manufex work processes, and other rules and regulations
  • Manage shift schedule, overtime, time-off requests, and timecards for direct reports
  • Keeps documentation of all team’s training and coordinates training times/dates
  • Clarify all KOP deviations are captured in Shift Connector and flagged for morning meeting
  • Operate and monitor equipment and process to produce quality chemical intermediates and finished products to a pre-determined operations plan.  Provide troubleshooting expertise.  Identify equipment/process problems/ improvement opportunities and communicate findings as appropriate.  Make necessary adjustments to react to process changes or to optimize process performance
  • Guide all operators in their part of the production process 
  • Assists Technical Coordinator with coordinating and prioritizing maintenance needs with production needs
  • Accountable for the production team maintaining standards for general housekeeping/maintenance of process areas. Perform the principles of Manufacturing Excellence (Manufex) environment, (e.g., minor equipment repair)
  • Maintain process and equipment documentation for tracking overall equipment effectiveness.  Approve batch records for accuracy. Assists with generating and maintaining SOPs, following change control procedures and validation processes as requested
  • Provide input to Department Management Staff to assist with nonconformance investigations and prepare associated documentation.  Generate statistical information to support process operations and for use as management tools
  • Complete safety inspections and ensure safety equipment is properly located and functional.  Document safety/environmental incidents and assist Department Management Staff with documentation and notification of appropriate personnel.  Participate in HAZOP/Pre-Startup review teams as required.  Review results of Hazard review and compliance audits and other information developed under PS standards. Initiate work permits and perform lockouts
  • Attend formal training classes (e.g., safety, quality improvement, problem solving, MSDS, etc.).  Complete all required computer-based training modules.   Assist Department Management Staff with identifying training needs.  Support Technical Staff in the development and/or delivery of training (e.g., self-direction, team skills, technical skills, cross craft/maintenance operations, Manufex, quality, DCS/computers, SOPs, cGMPs, etc.)
  • Assist with generating and maintaining SOPs, following change control procedures and validation processes as requested
  • Follow work processes - Support plant and corporate initiatives as outlined in the Manufacturing Plan. This may include leading improvement initiatives and/or acting as the Ready to Operate (RtO) lead on an Improve Plant or other projects
  • Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE): 
    • Enforce adherence to all SHE regulations, policies, and requirements
    • Use proper personal protective equipment, appropriate safety tools, equipment, and procedures to ensure that self and others go home safe each day
    • Ensure area and equipment operate at the highest safety levels
  • Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP):
    • Always display and promote positive quality behaviors
    • Ensure all records are up to date and signed according to cGMP principles and all finished lot samples have been delivered to QC for testing
    • Act to prevent all foreign matter contamination to the product by following personal hygiene standards, using all prescribed gowning requirements, and ensuring and maintaining cleanliness of the area and equipment
Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent; degree in engineering discipline or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing
  • Degree in chemical engineering discipline (preferred)
  • Ability to work and lead a team in a rotating shift pattern, coordinate multiple resources with minimal supervision, and coach and develop staff is required
  • Ability to operate personal computers
  • Strong technical capability and knowledge
  • Understanding of statistical process control, key performance indicators, and key operating parameters, and how to use those to drive safety, quality, and delivery in the production environment
  • Understanding of root cause analysis tools and experience with problem solving/troubleshooting
