The Public Service Pension Plan (Plan) is a defined benefit pension plan established in 1947 for eligible employees of the Government of Alberta, its agencies, boards, and commissions. The Plan has $16 Billion in assets, almost 90,000 members, and 27 participating employers. PSPP Corporation (PSPP), a public agency based in Edmonton, is the Administrator of the Plan and Trustee of the Plan fund.
PSPP has partnered with Aplin to find a talented Investment Director to join their investment team. This newly created senior position will play a key role in the success of PSPP’s investment program. PSPP’s investment portfolio is managed in a pension plan funding context and is highly diversified across asset classes and geographies.
The investment program is governed by PSPP’s Board of Directors, Investment Committee, and Management. Governing fiduciaries carry out investment decision-making and monitoring duties with support from the investment team. Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), the Investment Director will play a lead role in monitoring the services provided by PSPP’s legislated investment manager, Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo). The Investment Director will also support the CIO in servicing the portfolio management and investment decision-making duties of the governing fiduciaries. The role will contribute to the development of investment recommendations, the establishment of investment policies and procedures, the management of the relationship with AIMCo, and the communication of investment matters.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced investment professional with a diverse knowledge and skill base and a strong interest in pension portfolio management carried out within an institutional investment decision framework. Success in the position will be driven by the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, asset management teams, and pension peers.
