Join a top employer and advcane your career. Aplin has partnered with our client to recruit for an Export Controls Specialist based in the Vancouver area. Reporting directly to the Manager of Regulatory Compliance, this individual be responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and communicating policies and procedures which ensure government compliance with all applicable trade controls.

The Export Controls Specialist will be responsible for continuous improvement, anticipating customer needs, and demonstrate strong vision to stay abreast of best practices.


  • Review and complete End-User statements, permits, and licenses in Canada and abroad
  • Apply for re-exports retransfer authorizations for US-origin products with the US Department of State or Commerce
  • Manage the Export Controls Online (EXCOL) platform and processes related to export permit applications, reporting conditions, and advisory opinions assuring the accuracy of all applications
  • Ensure compliance with US ITAR/EAR regulations, Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and Canadian Exports and Imports Permit Act (EIPA)
  • Review and track Technical Assistance Agreements, DSP-5s, and other different export approvals and liaise with PMO to ensure compliance and suitability
  • Act as Alternate Security Officer and Designated Official to support functions under the Controlled Goods and Industrial Security programs
  • Provide training on CA/US export controls
  • Carry out tasks related to anti-corruption policies to assure external parties are properly screened and reliable, in coordination with the Manager and/or legal department
  • Ensure there is no unauthorized access to CGP or US controlled materials which includes managing access to segregated computer directories
  • 2+ years’ experience in Export Controls or a similar role
  • Strong understanding of US and Canadian export laws including ITAR, EAR, the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and Canadian exports and imports permits act
  • Strong knowledge of anticorruption and due diligence practices, policies, and procedures
  • Possess strong judgment and the ability to resolve complex export issues
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deal with all levels of the organization as well as external stakeholders
  • The successful candidate will need to previously hold or be able to obtain security clearance for this position
