Our client, an industry leader in custom pressure vessel fabrication is searching for a Design Engineer to be based in Edmonton. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this position will provide design and overall technical management for assigned projects in accordance with customer specifications, company standards, and applicable codes. The ideal candidate is a seasoned engineer with extensive design experience and is strongly mechanically inclined. Responsibilities:

  • Prepare mechanical designs and detailed engineering calculations for assigned projects in accordance with defined customer specifications, production schedules, company standards, and applicable codes; this includes specification notes, design, and fabrication
  • Review specifications for technical requirements and generate applicable summary notes
  • For assigned projects, check drawings prepared by drafting to confirm compliance with specifications, applicable codes, and design requirements, prior to submission for customer approval
  • Requisition of specified non-stock materials and services to meet production/schedule requirements on assigned projects
  • Generate inspection and test plans in conjunction with the Quality Control Department
  • Select appropriate weld procedures and identify requirements for new welding procedures/qualifications to meet project requirements in conjunction with the Welding Coordinator
  • Identify and log revisions that affect contract price and/or delivery and advise the Project Manager
  • Implement revisions and HOLDS to fabrication drawings
  • Resolve fabrication-related problems
  • Maintain positive customer liaison to clarify project details, enhance customer relations and respond to customer inquiries
  • Provide consultative engineering and design services to customers as permitted under the client's License to Practice through APEGA
  • Initiate corrective action to resolve issues related to technical specifications and/or relevant codes when variances are identified through the Quality Assurance process
  • Monitor the Engineering & Drafting schedule to ensure that documents are issued in a timely manner to support shop production and client schedules
  • Expedite client information and document approvals from clients in support of the production schedule
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. In Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) with APEGA
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the design/manufacture of pressure vessels
  • Familiar with computers and software (vessel design, database, word processing)
  • Familiar with COMPRESS, PV ELITE
  • Familiar with Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Familiar with ASME Section II, V, VIII, and IX and ANSI codes
  • Knowledge of structural design, engineering principles, and methods
  • Good communication skills and organizational ability
  • Ability to work independently within a team environment
