Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and administering all matters related to Occupational Health and Safety, workers’ compensation, return to work programs and wellness. 
 
Responsibilities:
  • Planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining Health and Safety programs and policies to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees. Provide Health & Safety training as needed, including hazard identification and awareness, first aid, accident reporting, etc.
  • Develop, implement and monitor the organization’s safety program and initiatives, including safe work procedures through all phases of commissioning, start-up and normal operation.
  • Represent the organization on the Joint Health & Safety Committee, ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements.
  • Provide health & safety orientations to new employees, update and train employees, and promote safety and wellness initiatives.
  • Manage the annual department budget as it relates to Health & Safety, reviewing associated costs and utilization to meet targets
  • Ensure that a safety philosophy is maintained to meet operational objectives and business goals and that safety and compliance issues are addressed and corrected promptly.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in engineering or related discipline or related education with years of experience.
  • CRSP designation would be an asset.
  • 5 years plus in an industrial or manufacturing environment with experience implementing safety programs related to legislative standards.
  • Demonstrated strong people leadership skills with a proven ability to lead and motivate an organization while being able to foster positive relationships across the organization.
  • Proven commitment to promoting a safe environment and General Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to develop research methodologies
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
